How to Choose the Right Domain Name

Your domain name can give you an instant presence on the internet.

The right domain name can greatly enhance the first impression a customer gets of your website.

When creating a website, the first step of course is choosing a relevant domain name. If your website offers real estate listings, you're going to want to choose a domain name that uses the words your customers are most likely to use in major search engines to find you (such as Google and Yahoo) . If you were building a website that offered information on real estate, you would want to use keywords and phrases such as "homes for sale" or "real estate" in your domain name, to reflect the content.

However, "homes for sale" or "real estate" are broad terms, and there is a lot of competition already there.

In this case, it's best to choose a domain name that narrows it down to what state you live in, such as "CaliforniaRealEstate.com". If that name's taken, then try "CaliRealEstate.com" or even "RealEstateCalifornia.com". The name of course should be something that's easy to say, and easy to remember, and generally no longer than six syllables. Try to keep your domain name as short as possible, using as few words as possible.

Examples of other keyword names are:

ProfessionalSportsScores.com

FantasyFootballFans.com

NorthIdahoHomes.com

ChristianPopMusic.com

For the most part, Two words names are the best (but there's a good chance the name you want has already been taken). In that case, three words is your domain name is ok.

On the other hand, four words is usually too many. You don't want a website called NorthSideAutoDetailCarMechanics.com. Instead of that name, I would try for something such as NSAutoDetail.com. It's short and easy to remember (and will fit on a business card).
