How to Make Money with Affiliate Programs, Google AdWords, and Other Advertisers By Kenneth Wilson, WiredBusinessDesign.com. Copyright © 2011. All rights reserved. Many people rush into their first website hoping to make easy money on the web. For the most part those days of "easy money" are gone for those of us marketing to the mainstream. The question still remains though: How do you start making money with a website you're launching on a small budget? Make Money with Your Site By website I'm referring to a content-driven site that publishes articles, blogs, social media, or video (or all these things) in the attempt to build readership. Affiliate Programs and Google AdWords Earning money from advertising (such as Google Ad Words) is ultimately the way a content-driven site can make money, as well as joining affiliate programs. If you have specific products / services promoted through an affiliate program featured on your site, then when clicked on and purchased, you can be paid a small figure per transaction. Before you start thinking about making dollars though, I really need to stress that our focus needs to be about being found in Google search, and increasing our Google traffic by increasing the number of topics / search phrases covered on the site. A site that develops itself to be found in Google typically is also picked up by other major search engines such as Bing and Yahoo. When you develop your site to rank in Google for different searches, what this achieves is free, long term, targetted traffic to your site, where you don't have to pay for advertising. Now, once you're pulling growing traffic numbers from Google, your site should naturally start making money from Google Ad Words. Advertisers As your site expands in Google search rankings, and the site captures more readers, you are likely to then start attracting the interest of advertisers. Small advertisers may offer you a few hundred dollars for a few months of ad placement across your site. Large advertisers may offer you a few thousand. These larger advertisers are typically going to be interested in your traffic numbers though.... how many people you're getting to your website. They may also want to do a test, to see how many clicks their ads are going to receive. Depending on your site's content, a small number of affiliate program products placed strategically on the website can generate generous amounts of money. This will take research though, to find out what the best paying affiliate programs are, and then targetting those that are likely to have products or services that appeal to your audience. Two things for you to start learning during the development of your site are "Affiliate Program Marketing" and "Succeeding with Google Ad Words" (do searches on these). But remember, we need to develop the site first ... your focus should be content, content, content... And then in the weeks to come, linking, linking, linking with other sites. Which should help get us ranked in Google as we embark on an "SEO" campaign. Now that traffic is taking place, we start talking about finding ways to make money.
It will likely
happen naturally though,
if our content grabs people.
